5 Tips for Setting Up Your Home Office

Working from home was once considered something that only a fortunate few were able to do. However, with the COVID-19 virus in full swing, many people have found themselves working from home and not really sure how to go about it.

Striking a work-life balance during COVID-19 has proven to be challenging for some. If you take the time to set up a home office, it can help you balance your home life and your work life quite well. If you’re unsure how to set up a home office, this blog will allow you to do just that with ease.

Consider Your Location Options

While it may be tempting to camp out at the kitchen table or curl up on the couch with your laptop to work, it’s not a good way to separate your home life from your work life. If you’re going to be working from home, you really need an area just used for work. That could be the garage, an extra bedroom, or space in the attic, as long as it’s somewhere where you can work uninterrupted.

If you’re considering working from home permanently and have no spare space, it’s worth checking into remodeling a portion of your home for your home office. Go to your favorite search engine and enter “remodeling contractors near me” into the search bar and then your area for the best results.

Let in the Light

While you want to work without distractions in your new home office, you don’t want to be walled up inside a windowless room for eight to 10 hours a day either. Make sure that you choose a room that lets in natural light and that you can open your windows to the spring and fall breezes when you feel like it. You’re not going to feel like working in a stuffy room with only artificial light in it, so you’ll find yourself distracted and getting nothing done instead.

Create a List of Equipment You’ll Need

Once your home office is planned out, you need to create a list of the essential equipment and software you need to get your workday started. A desk, computer, and printer should be at the top of your list.

Some people make vague lists that they don’t stick to. Other people don’t make lists at all, buy willy-nilly, and end up going way over budget. Make sure you add a reliable internet connection and a good-sized monitor with blue light built-in to that list as well.

Choose Homey Accessories

While you want your office to be for work, you must be comfortable in your office and reflect your personality and interest. For example, if you’re a horror author, you might want to decorate your walls with posters of books, horror movies, and horror icons to get you in the mood to write. Make sure to choose warm rugs, plants, and other accessories that speak to who you are and motivate and inspire you to work at the same time.

Don’t Forget Storage

Everyone knows that you don’t get much work done in a cluttered, unorganized space. So, why would you let your home office be cluttered and disorganized? Make sure to buy desks with drawers, file cabinets, and other things needed to ensure you have enough storage space that things aren’t lying around your office and getting in the way.

These are just a few tips to help you set up your home office so that you can work uninterrupted and be inspired while doing it. From letting in natural light to being comfortable where you work, you can do this; it just takes time and practice.
